My approach to treating patients

Welcome to the web site of Dr Stelios Hadjichristofis. I created this web site to familiarize you with my orthopaedic practice and the services we provide. As a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa(1989 -1994),with more than 22 years of surgical experience in the Operating Room, you can be assured my clinical credentials are excellent and I take a highly personal approach to caring for my patients.In addition, I've completed post-residency training in Arthroscopic Surgery and Arthroplasty and I was in charge of Arthroscopy unit in Johannesburg Hospital for 4 years. At the same time I was a part of a strong team in Trauma and Arthroplasty units. I strongly believe continuing education is the key to providing excellent, ongoing patient care. As a result, I've recently completed rigorous skills training programs in Trauma – member of the prestigious AO Alumni where I participated in Masters courses, Arthroscopic surgery participating in multiple workshops and congresses up to date with the latest technology, Arthroplasty – I have used the latest technology for Hip replacement (Non cemented, Ceamic on metal) and knee replacements with CAS (Computer Assisted Surgery) and I use the latest possible information and technology to obtain the latest information (AAOS etc.) to further enhance my surgical skills and clinical knowledge. My practice is unique in that I can offer to my patients 12 years of experience in one of the biggest and busiest Private Hospitals in Johannesburg dealing with exceptionally complicated cases. I've gained an immeasurable amount of experience in many aspects of general orthopaedics including: Arthroscopic Shoulder Acromioplasty; Arthroscopic Rotator cuff repair- shoulder; Arthroscopic Bankart repair - shoulder; Total Knee replacement – Computer assisted surgery; Total Hip replacement; Shoulder replacement; Arthroscopic reconstruction of ACL and PCL with hamstrings and artificial ligaments; Arthroscopic repair of cartilage in the knee; Arthroscopic meniscectomy and debridement; Complicated reconstructions of ligaments of complicated knee dislocations.; Advanced foot surgery; Complicated hand trauma; Complicated fractures of Pelvis.; Complicated intraarticular fractures; Dealing with severe bone infection. When you come to see me as your orthopaedic surgeon, surgery is not your only option. Surgery is only one of many treatment options. Many of my patients never need to have surgery I'll keep you informed of why surgery is required, what will be done in the surgery, and what to expect as an eventual outcome after surgery .
